Hong Kong Promenade

Locals Practice Tai Chi to Welcome the New Day

Hong Kong is a towering metropolis, bulging at the seams, pushing against the towering peaks, muddy sea and capricious sky. Peace is hard to find in a place like this, amongst a people with so much energy.   But it is there, if you look.

Down the promenade early in the morning the locals perform Tai Chi, a slo-mo dance to the rising sun.  In Typhoon season the clouds and light are constantly changing, the heavens a kaleidoscope, casting myriad fortunes on the denizens below.  But the routines of the faithful remain the same, their set moves releasing their inner voice in a silent dance full of presence, hope and longing.  Here are shots of the faithful from a couple of mornings down by the waving and the waves.
